Improved PR title input field

Background

Indeed.com is a global employment platform that helps job seekers find opportunities and employers hire talent efficiently. At Indeed Japan, one of my key responsibilities as part of the employer team (designing products for employers) was to improve the job posting quality and experience.

Problem Statement

When posting jobs on Indeed Japan, employers struggled to write effective 'PR titles', resulting in onboarding challenges and reduced job posting quality. 'PR titles' are short catch copies intended to entice job seekers into clicking the job to learn more about it. They typically highlight unique attributes of the job such as employee benefits, workplace location convenience, and schedule flexibility.

As noted by an employer during a past UX research interview:
“I didn’t know what to write for the PR title field, so I skipped it and decided to come back to it later.”

How might we help employers write compelling PR titles?

UX Goal

  • Provide better user guidance regarding how to fill out the PR title input field.

Business Goals

  • Reduce friction for new users posting their first jobs by making PR title creation easier.

  • Improve job candidate attraction with effective PR titles on live job posts.

  • Decrease ongoing support requests about PR titles from existing users.

3 example PR Titles from the live job feed provided as reference inside a popover

3 example PR Titles from the live job feed provided as reference inside a popover

In my redesign, I provided three example PR titles from the live job feed on Indeed with slight rewording (to avoid legal issues) for users to reference while entering the input field.

From analyzing 100 PR titles from the live job feed, I chose three that I deemed most comprehensive and applicable to general use cases. I provided examples for full-time and part-time positions to accommodate for differences in PR title wording and formatting styles.

English translations for the PR title examples:

  • Utilized the top three examples I found during my research (I gathered & analyzed 100 PR titles from real users) that I deemed most comprehensive and applicable to general use cases.

  • Create your ideal career with training that teaches you the basics and comprehensive employee benefits (full-time job)

  • Starting from XX hours per day / Starting from XX days per week / Closed on XX days / XX minutes walk from XX station (part-time job)

  • We're looking for opening staff! No experience necessary! High hourly wage and excellent benefits! (part-time job)

Revised the helper text in the input field

Revised the helper text in the input field

I revised the helper text of the input field to: “Write what you want to most convey to job seekers about your job in a short sentence. View examples”

I incorporated what the Director of Sales tells his clients during support calls when providing guidance for the PR title field.

Helper text before: “Write a short sentence to promote the job. Example: Workplace is close to X train station, so commuting is very convenient!"

Results

My solution significantly improves user guidance regarding the PR title field input and will likely boost new user activation rates (posting their first job), reduce support requests, and enhance PR title quality for further candidate attraction.
